When I settled on the word "peace" as the key word for the idea for this story and cover, one of the visual languages I considered was 60's rock posters. This seemed to be a good direction, because of the layers of complexity and simplicity possible with montage, which is used in a lot of the rock posters. Another compo-nent of those posters is saturated fields of color, which I was able to use as a transition of red to orange, symbolizing California's drought and the strife surrounding water here.
