Photographer Sonya Doctorian took a speed boat tour of the Sacramento Delta, but it was a quiet scene near Fresno that I used for the opening spread. Sonya allowed me to tint the photo to give it a parched appearance, leaving only the rainbow untinted to represent California's new peace-making water deals.
